Ok, so I have this huge, growing list of places to eat. The thing is this: I eat out A LOT and have been marking off the list for way longer than I’ve been blogging about it. So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to list the restaurants that I have marked with a +. These are the places that I’ve dined at and thought were great for what they were trying to accomplish, the ones I would most certainly go back to. Most importantly, the food was fantastic at all of these places and I highly recommend trying them for yourself.
In no particular order:
Xoco- so right on… in every way
Purple Pig- fun and tasty. mostly man food but with a few good lighter options.
Girl and the Goat- funky and wacky ingredient combos but delish. (super bowl brunch kicked ass.)
Lula Cafe- excellent hippie cafe. gotta be in the mood for a decadent breakfast.
The Bristol- nothing a miss. maybe top 3.
Sepia- it’s been a while… can’t remember specifics. guess it’s time to re-visit.
Maude’s- not as heavy as I was expecting. I wanted to try more things on the menu (brussels sprouts are a must have!)
Saigon Sisters- was surprised at the complexity of each dish. so interesting and under-hyped.
Nana- fresh and real.
Spacca Napoli- i heart spacca napoli. top 3 napoletane pizzas in the states (with keste and motorino, nyc).
Tru- shocked that this place is ranked 2 michelin stars when L20 is 3. Service and food are impeccable!
Avec- mmmm…. braised pork shoulder….mmmm
And here are a few places that people tell me should be on the (+) list but just aren’t for me. This does not mean that I think these places are bad, something just missed about them and, therefore, kept them from my tops.
Spiaggia- Sooooo expensive for what you get. I just didn’t seem worth it. Everything was good, but not incredible.
The Publican- Just didn’t feel the execution was there.
Nightwood- good but not incredible
The Gage- ditto
Longman & Eagle- with so much hype, I wanted to love it. Every dish felt like it needed something to bring it to amazing.
Sable- seems like it’s trying too hard
Kith and Kin- good, but no seat-dancing
Rootstock Wine Bar- nice neighborhood joint… wouldn’t go out of my way.
Belly Shack- interesting… some stuff better than other.
Bongo Room- what is the hype about here? just didn’t get it.
Riccardo Trattoria- so wish this place was real deal authentic. not so much. (but I’m a snob from having lived in Italy for 3 years. never seen a good arancino in the states… but I keep lookin!)
Veerasway- I always have a hard time finding something I want to order. I’d rather go across the street to the less swanky Jaipur.
De Cero- also lacking some umph.
Sun Wah BBQ- i won’t tell you what happened to my stomach after dinner here. (although the duck was delicious… the rest was just ok.)
And, of course, I’m always adding to it so please feel free to suggest your faves!
